When I used to work in Huge Commercial Recording Studio in Chicago when I was Assisting days
Our days were Jingle session every day all the day from 5AM~5PM. set up for rhythm session to Narration was daily schedule and I hated it.
(now I have learn a lots form those days such as ….. being Patience)
One of our regular orchestra set-up routine, assistant set-up U87i for 1st and 2nd ,,,, such and such.
on short commercial session back to back, we require fast set-up and break-down. we all used QUICK-MOUNT instead SCREW-MOUNT on each microphone.
because of tight schedule, assistant have to start setting up as early as 4AM.
it was cold and sunny winter afternoon, everything was like it was yesterday. we knew we are going to get drunk at 6PM at the bar downstair.
all the sudden, we all heard big scream and people were running around hallways.
THE U87 armed with wire constructed shock-mount decided to make a dive from 8 feet high directly in to the one of Violinist.
U87 did hit the target and penetrate in to the instruments (with Audio Cable connected.)
It was so big deal the studio have to almost close.
rest of the day was like a-wake for every one.
Off course that evening at our regular bar routine became far well party for the assistant engineer.
we all went back to the studio that night. dig up the MULTI Track tape and playback the recording of what U87 did.
we listen to the take so many times, drinking Vodka and GiN.
No body remembered how it sounded.
but I am sure I wasn’t distorted
